The city of Málaga and its province will serve as the backdrop for a new Disney+ series set during the Holocaust era.

The upcoming mini-series, which is set to be released on Disney+, is based on the debut novel by Georgia Hunter, titled "We Were the Lucky Ones." The novel tells the story of the Kurcs, a Jewish family living in Poland during the Holocaust era. Despite the growing threat of the Nazis, the Kurc family tries to maintain a normal life. However, as the systematic annihilation of the Jews intensifies, the family members are separated and forced to live in German ghettos, farms, and factories.

The series is being produced by Hulu, a subsidiary of Disney+, and will feature an ensemble cast. Joey King, known for her roles in "My First Kiss" and "Bullet Train," is set to star in the leading role. Other cast members include Logan Lerman, Robin Weigert, Michael Aloni, Henry Lloyd Hughes, Hadas Yaron, Lior Ashkenazi, Ido Samuel, and Lihi Kornowski.

The production of the mini-series has already begun in Bucharest, Romania, and will continue in Malaga, Spain. Fresco Film, a services production company based in Malaga, will be the production partner for the filming in Spain. Fresco Film has previously worked on several international productions, such as "Game of Thrones," "House of the Dragon," and "Narcos: Mexico."

The exact scenes to be filmed in Malaga and the surrounding province are being kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed that the setting will be central Europe during the height of the Nazi regime. The mini-series will consist of eight episodes, and it is expected to be an emotionally gripping portrayal of the Kurc family's struggle for survival during one of the darkest periods in human history.
