The cost of hotel rooms on Costa del Sol has increased by 26.5% compared to their prices in 2019.

According to the Turismo Costa del Sol hotel situation report, tourists paid an average of 87.70 euros per day for a hotel room in the first three months of 2023 in the province of Malaga. This represents a 26.5% increase compared to the same period in 2019. The rise in costs resulted in the revenue per room (Revpar) increasing by about 27.5% in the province as a whole, exceeding 31% in some hotels along the Costa del Sol coastline.

Despite the increase in hotel costs, the province of Malaga still attracted over one million visitors in the first quarter of 2023, exceeding the 2019 record by 6.5%. However, José Luque, the president of the Aehcos association of hoteliers on the Costa del Sol, expressed concerns about the profitability of businesses due to the significant rise in costs in recent months. This includes the increase in the minimum wage, which has risen by 8% in 2023, accumulating a 47% increase over the last five years, the increase in Social Security contributions paid by companies, and the growth in interest rates for hotels.

It's worth noting that the average daily hotel rate (ADR) paid by tourists to stay in Malaga's hotels in the first three months of 2023 was six euros higher than the average in Andalucía, where prices had risen by 20.7%. However, the average daily hotel rate paid in Malaga was 10.42 euros less than the average in Spain as a whole, which recorded a 20% increase. In March, the revenue per available room (Revpar) in Malaga province increased by 39% compared to the same month in 2019, standing at 64.96 euros for the average revenue per available room.
