Amazon logistics center in Malaga worth 80 million euros gets closer to completion.

After almost two years of bureaucratic procedures and design adjustments, the much-anticipated Amazon logistics centre in Malaga city has taken a significant step closer to completion.

The planned centre will cover an area of 119,000 square metres and will be utilized for goods storage and distribution, and is valued at a whopping 80 million euros. However, the project had to navigate through several urban planning procedures, which resulted in unexpected delays.

The Intelhorce site where the logistics centre will be situated was bought by Montepino from the previous owner Mayoral. One of the essential requirements for the project was the approval of an urban planning study, which the council endorsed in August 2021. Following this, Montepino proceeded to present the project for the land's development for the logistics centre to the Municipal Urban Planning Department. However, the document has yet to be validated by the City Council.

In September 2021, the planners requested the presentation of a development project instead of a project for ordinary urbanisation works, a distinct difference. Montepino submitted the project in March 2022, but different municipal bodies identified changes and corrections that needed to be made, prompting the developer to resubmit it in January.

Despite their best efforts, planners again found errors in the document, which required Montepino to make further corrections. The latest version of the urbanisation project was presented last April.

On Friday, 5th May, the local council allowed the project to go ahead for processing, accompanied by a series of reports and previous adjustments, including making the works compatible with the future widening of the old Cártama road.

However, the approval of the development project for the Intelhorce land is still pending. The document must now undergo a process of public consultation, and new reports must show how the development will be environmentally friendly.
